Quick Start
SET UP MAGICURE
MagiCure provides a variety of setup options, ranging from single-computer setup to mass
deployment and synchronized setup of hundreds — even thousands — of PCs.
To set up MagiCure on a single computer, use the DEFAULT or CUSTOM SETUP options.
DEFAULT SETUP installs MagiCure with default values optimized to provide excellent
performance with minimal input required from the user.
In DEFAULT SETUP, all program files are copied to a single default place: The C:\Program
files\Shield folder. DEFAULT SETUP enables protection of all computer drives and disables
program access control.
CUSTOM SETUP lets you configure your own settings, such as where to copy the program
files, which drives to protect, the on/off switch for program access control, etc.
ADVANCED SETUP is designed for professionals and advanced users, and for deployment of
MagiCure to a network of computers.
ADVANCED SETUP enables fast distribution of a user-determined MagiCure configuration to
many computers simultaneously. This setup provides all computers with the same
configuration as defined in the setup.cfg configuration file.
Before running ADVANCED SETUP, you must create an initial configuration file — setup.cfg —
using the ADVANCED SETUP CONFIGURATION WIZARD (provided in the SUPPORT folder of the
MagiCure software package).
ADVANCED SETUP enables the mass deployment of MagiCure via Windows Active Directory,
SMS Software Deployment Tools, Network Logon Scripts, or Ghost Images.
RESTORE STSTEM
Using MagiCure’s snapshots, you can rollback your PC’s system with much more control than with
any other existing software. You can control rollback parameters from either MagiCure’s
APPLICATION CONSOLE in Windows, or in the SUBSYSTEM CONSOLE, which is available before
you boot to Windows OS.
Both consoles offer you a listing of time-stamped snapshots that will help you choose the
appropriate moment in time to where you want to roll back your PC. MagiCure’s rollback
process is performed with large set of controls, and is performed in matter of seconds.
In cases when your computer is unable to start Windows, you should press and hold the HOME
key when you see MagiCure’s logo during the computer’s startup process. This will bring you
into MagiCure’s SUBSYSTEM CONSOLE, from where you can pick the moment in time — your
snapshot — to which you want to roll back the PC. Simply select ROLLBACK and pick your
snapshot.
RECOVER FILES
Thanks to MagiCure, you can now easily RECOVER damaged, corrupted, or lost files, and even
revert existing files to their earlier versions!
To recover your files or folders, select the RECOVER FILES option in the APPLICATION
CONSOLE, and then select one of MagiCure’s snapshots with the time-stamp of your choice.
After you select your snapshot, you have your ”moment in time” in which you can search
through files or folders by name, specific type, size, etc.
To revert files or folders to an earlier version, right-click the file or folder and select RESTORE
FROM SNAPSHOT from the popup menu. MagiCure will prompt you to select a snapshot/time
from which you will revert your files and/or their versions.
TAKE A NEW SNAPSHOT
You can think of MagiCure’s snapshots as ”stations in time.” They let you select a moment in
time from which you can restore the state of your file, or even the entire system.
It is very important to occasionally take new MagiCure snapshots; they will enable you to roll
the system back to them later in case of emerging PC troubles, or even a crash.
You can take MagiCure snapshots in both the Windows APPLICATION CONSOLE for MagiCure,
or in the pre-Windows MagiCure’s SUBSYSTEM CONSOLE.
To take a snapshot in Windows from MagiCure’s APPLICATION CONSOLE, simply select TAKE
SNAPSHOT, and then specify a name or description for the new snapshot.
RESET THE BASELINE
The BASELINE is the very first snapshot created during MagiCure setup. It is the root or
”mother” of all other snapshots that will be created afterwards.
MagiCure offers you the option of returning your PC’s system to the BASELINE at any time,
with ease and in matter of seconds.
To reset the system to its BASELINE, enter the MagiCure APPLICATION CONSOLE, select the
MANAGE BASELINE option, and then click on RESET TO BASELINE button.
CONTROL ACCESS
Considering MagiCure’s powerful features, you may want to prevent unqualified users from
accessing your MagiCure controls. To do that go to MagiCure’s APPLICATION CONSOLE and
select the ACCESS CONTROL feature, from where you can activate password authentication for
the use of MagiCure on your computer.
ACCESS CONTROL provides options to create new USER ACCOUNTS and grant them
appropriate rights for various MagiCure features.
MANAGE SNAPSHOTS
MagiCure’s snapshots allow you high levels of control and options, previously unavailable in
any other kind of restore or backup software.
To manage MagiCure snapshots, enter the MagiCure APPLICATION CONSOLE and select
SNAPSHOT HISTORY, from where you can explore, rename, delete, and lock/unlock
snapshots.
This allows you to easily maintain and control your list of Snapshots — your “safe” points in
time — to which you can return your PC in case of trouble.
Part of the snapshot maintenance can be automated to save precious time, while at the same
time providing enough safety for MagiCure’s successful operation.
AUTOMATE MAGICURE
You can easily automate MagiCure to take scheduled snapshots or perform scheduled rollbacks
according to pre-determined parameters. To create scheduled tasks, open MagiCure’s
APPLICATION CONSOLE and select the SCHEDULED TASKS option.
UNINSTALL MAGICURE
You can uninstall MagiCure from Windows Control Panel’s ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS console,
or from MagiCure’s SUBSYSTEM CONSOLE, which appears before Windows startup.
The option to uninstall from the SUBSYSTEM CONSOLE is an ideal solution for emergency
situations, when the user is unable to start windows. To uninstall from the SUBSYSTEM
CONSOLE, press and hold the HOME key when you see MagiCure’s logo during computer’s
startup. Then select UNINSTALL from menu options.
To uninstall MagiCure, you must first decide whether to select the existing system as the final
state, or to return the system to some other snapshot, and make that the final state.
